End Of The Year Celebration
This past Friday was the last day of the After School Academy. We had a blast!
There was a jazz band called the Inner-City All Stars that came to play music for the kids. They were great! They played some jazzy songs, sung with the kids, and they also helped them make Madi-Gras masks to dance around in while they played music.
They even did a concert outside in the front of the ASA, people were coming from all around to see what was going on. Before we knew it, we had taken in some more kids from Parks and Rec. It was great!
I then began to throw out Madi-Gras beads to all the kids. They loved it! They felt like the were in Louisiana for a real Madi-Gras Extravaganza.
Once they were done with the concert, we came inside and enjoyed some good old nachos with chili and cheese. It can't get no better than that!!! Once they were done eating we let the children play and dance around.
When it was time to go, they did not even want to leave. We had to eventually escort the kids out the door.
I will miss them, but I was glad it was over. I did tell them they could stop by and visit. What did I say that for? They have been coming by every day! It's OK though! That just lets me know that they liked being at the After School Academy.

I haven't seen your other end of term programs but I can say this was the most energetic and egaging one I have seen.
It was a really excellent combination of art and culture, celebrating with a New Orleans style Jazz band, which gave the children another exposure to their proud heritage.
Your idea was a hit it seems.
Congratulations on taking some risk to step out of the box. Sometimes you just don't know how people will respond but that can't be the only reason you don't take the chance.
Kids need to see adults tying new things and surviving the consequences. May you never stop being bold!!!
